Tween 85 is a nonionic surfactant with hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB≈11) and good emulsifying and dispersing properties. The compound is amber-colored viscous liquid at room temperature, easily soluble in water, ethanol and a variety of organic solvents, because it contains unsaturated oleic acid chain and need to be protected from light to prevent oxidation. Tween 85 is widely used as an emulsifier for vaccine adjuvants and drug carriers in the pharmaceutical field, for stabilizing creams and emulsions in cosmetics, and for improving the texture of ice cream and other products in the food industry (E434). In addition, it is also used in pesticide emulsification, industrial lubrication and other fields, the use of which requires comprehensive consideration of its oxidative stability and compatibility with specific systems.
