Potassium tartrate has the chemical formula K2C4H4O6. Molecular weight 226.27. Dihydrate is a racemic form, a colorless monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 1.984. It is easily soluble in water and loses its crystalline water to form an anhydrous substance at 100 ℃. Its hemihydrate has a relative density of 1.98 and a refractive index of 1.526 (β). It loses its crystal water at 155 ℃ and decomposes at 200-220 ℃. Very soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol.
