Hinokitiol is a white to yellowish crystal with a unique woody aroma and antibacterial properties. It is mainly extracted from Taiwan cypress and other plants, and is used in cosmetics (acne elimination, antiseptic), oral care and antimicrobial materials, where its metal chelating ability (e.g. iron ions) and low toxicity are prominent. It needs to be kept away from light and moisture.
