Cetearyl alcohol is a white waxy solid or flake made from a mixture of cetearyl alcohol (C16) and stearyl alcohol (C18), which is odourless and delicate to the touch.It is widely used as a classic emulsifier and thickener in cosmetics (e.g. creams, lotions) and pharmaceutical ointments to stabilise the formulation and enhance the consistency of the texture, while at the same time providing a skin-softening effect.It is safe, but may occasionally cause slight irritation to sensitive skin.
